Public Sector Specialists Programme

The request to run this programme came from the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives who had some people recently appointed to Principal positions. By the time the programme started in August, we had 14 participants from five public sector agencies signed up, giving it a good cross-agency perspective. Rob was the lead facilitator first time around, with Sue Hornblow and Brian Carson facilitating different sections of the programme.

Following the success of the programme, we have decided to repeat it again in 2016, with the first workshop scheduled to start in February. Here's what some of the participants had to say:

"This is a great programme for those in public sector roles where you are required to influence without authority. This is a critical competency for those in Principal roles who want to be effective and credible."

"The opportunity to think beyond your own agency was very timely as we put more emphasis on what we deliver, broader results and shared accountability for stewardship of the system."

"I particularly enjoyed the sessions on communication. Understanding and influencing stakeholders was particularly helpful with the emphasis on collaboration and working constructively towards informed collaborative decision making."

"The feedback from colleagues in the Emotional Intelligence Multi-Rater assessment gave me something very concrete to consider and helped me ground my expectations in reality."

We have taken on board feedback from the evaluation and reorganised the order of some sections, but the programme content is essentially the same.

The Genos Emotional Intelligence multi-rater assessment is a core element to the programme and we have decided to bring this forward, with the assessment process starting immediately after the first two-day workshop.

Spaces are limited to 14 participants.
